Members of the CIVILEX consortium met today with Mr. Serrano, the Deputy Secretary General for CSDP (Common Security and Defence Policy) and Crisis Response at the European External Action Service (EEAS). During the exchange Mr. Serrano was joined by Mr. Vermessen, Deputy Civilian Operations Commander / Chief of Staff in the CPCC and Mrs. Nina Antolovic Tovornik from the Crisis Management and Planning Directorate (CMPD).
The CIVILEX team presented the progress of the project. The discussion with Mr. Serrano is particularly relevant for the project thanks to his extensive experience in the field of EU civilian crisis management. Mr. Serrano was Managing Director a.i. for Crisis Response Operational Coordination of the EEAS. Previously he served as Principal Advisor on External Affairs to former President of the European Council Herman Van Rompuy, and was the first to head the EU Delegation at the United Nations, New York, after the entry into force of the Lisbon Treaty. He has been active in the field of CSDP since 2000, including by heading the Directorate for Civilian Crisis Management at the General Secretariat of the Council. Mr Serrano confirmed his support for the CIVILEX project and the recommendations that will be presented in spring 2017, which will be important for the further development of CSDP.
